Cimetidine is available by prescription only. Cimetidine is an anti-ulcer drug. Cimetidine is used to treat a variety of problems associated with the stomach and intestinal tract that include stomach and intestinal ulcers, stomach inflammation, or acid reflux. Like other histamine receptor-2 blockers, cimetidine decreases the acid content in the stomach to provide a more favorable stomach pH. Cimetidine is prescribed by veterinarians as an extra-label drug.

For:

Dogs, Cats and Horses

Benefits:

  • Treats ulcers and aids in the prevention of ulcer formation
  • Supports treatment of gastritis and esophagitis
  • Reduction of stomach acid production

How it works

Cimetidine block the histamine H-2 receptor that stimulates stomach acid secretion. Thus, cimetidine blocks acid secretion in the stomach to provide a more favorable stomach pH (acidity).
