Otomax is available by prescription only. Otomax is used in dogs to treat acute and chronic ear infections, skin and ear yeast infections, and skin fungi. Otomax contains three active ingredients clotrimazole, an antifungal, gentamicin, an antibiotic, and betamethasone valerate, a steroid.

How it works

By virtue of its three active ingredients Gentamicin, Betamethasone, and Clotrimazole, Otomax ointment provides antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and antifungal activity to combat infections of the outer ear accompanied by inflammation.

Storage:

Should be stored at room temperature, away from moisture and heat.

Prior to use the external ear should be cleaned and dried, and excessive hair should be clipped from the treatment area. Remove foreign material, debris, crusted exudates, etc., with suitable nonirritating solutions.

Cautions

Keep out of the reach of children and pets. Otomax is not intended for human use. Otomax should not be used in animals with known hypersensitivity or allergy to this drug. Tell your veterinarian if your dog is pregnant or lactating. Hearing loss can occur in older dogs. Betamethasone can be absorbed into the blood stream, causing the adrenal gland function to slow down. Otomax may interact with some other medications. Inform your veterinarian of any and all medications your pet may be taking. Do not use Otomax in dogs that have perforated ear drums. Store at room temperature.

Possible side effects:

Adverse reactions and serious side effects are rare, but in the case of a more serious reaction, seek veterinary attention immediately. Common adverse reactions and more serious side effects are hearing loss in older dogs or dizziness or head tilt.
