Proin (phenylpropanolamine hydrochloride) is FDA approved for control of canine urinary incontinence due to urethral spincter hypotonus. Proin is an aid in the management of urinary incontinence in dogs. Proin contains phenylpropanolamine, an active ingredient that helps tighten the bladder sphincter muscle, which helps control urine leakage.
DOSAGE: Proin is specifically formulated for easy administration and is available in three strengths; 25, 50 and 75 mg liver- flavored tablets as well as 25 mg/mL vanilla flavored drops. The flavoring encouragesclient compliance; most dogs will accept Proin tablets as a treat, and Proin Drops can be added to food.
Phenylpropanolamine Hydrochloride is toxic when overdoses are ingested. Adverse effects may include dizziness, headache, nausea, insomnia or restlessness, and increased blood pressure. The ususl oral adult dose of phenylpropanolamine hydrochloride is 25 mg every four hours, not to exceed a maximum of 150 mg in 24 hours.
1 to 2 mg/kg of body weight every 12 hours.
